AI Told Her She Was a Summer. Here's What Happened Next.

A client came to see me recently for a colour analysis session, and during our consultation I asked a question I always ask:
"Have you ever had your colours done before?"
Her answer surprised me.
"No, but AI told me I was a summer season and that I had a cool undertone."
I smiled because, honestly, that's becoming more common during my colour analysis sessions.
Before we even started draping, we talked about what colour analysis actually is. We spoke about undertones, how warm and cool colours behave on different people, why certain metals look more harmonious than others, and what we're looking for when we place colours next to the face.
The interesting thing is that AI wasn't wildly wrong.
In fact, based on what she told me, it had picked up on some characteristics that were relevant. But as we moved through the process together, some colours turned out to be a surprise.
That's the thing about colour analysis.
It's one thing to read about colour theory. It's another thing entirely to sit in front of a mirror and watch your face change when the right colour is placed beneath it.
You can see shadows disappear.
You can see your eyes become brighter.
You can see your skin look healthier.
And sometimes you discover that a colour you have avoided for years actually makes you look fantastic.
At the end of the session, I asked her how she felt about the results.
Her answer was amazing...
She said that even if the session had ended with a similar conclusion AI had given her, she still wouldn't have changed a thing.
Why?
Because she learned so much.
She learned how colour affects the face.
She learned how lipstick can influence the way colours behave.
She learned why some shades felt energising while others felt draining.
Most importantly, she experienced it for herself.
That conversation made me curious, so I decided to try it too.
I asked AI what season I was.
The first time it told me I was a Spring.
The second time it told me I was a Winter.
The reality?

I'm a Bright Winter.
And if you know seasonal colour analysis, you'll know why the answers varied.
Bright Winter sits in an interesting place. It borrows characteristics from Winter but also shares brightness with Spring. That's why certain questions, photographs, lighting conditions, or descriptions can sometimes push the answer one way or the other.
It wasn't completely wrong.
But it wasn't completely right either. I was also told on my third attempted that I was a dark autumn.
And that's the limitation of AI when it comes to colour analysis. AI can work with information it's given.
A photograph.
A description.
A list of features.
But it cannot place a coral beside your face and compare it with a fuchsia.
It cannot show you what happens when a warm lipstick is swapped for a cool one.
It cannot watch your complexion come alive in real time.
Colour analysis is not simply about being told your season.
It's about understanding why.
It's about learning what harmony looks like on you.
It's about seeing the difference with your own eyes.
AI is a fantastic tool, and I have no doubt it will continue to improve. But when it comes to discovering your best colours, there is still something incredibly valuable about sitting down with another person, exploring the colours together, and experiencing those transformations for yourself.
Take care,
Margarita x
